BACKGROUND

In June 2021, the City Council approved the Downtown West project, including a Development Agreement that outlines community benefits that Google will provide. One of those is a $1 million contribution for neighborhood programs at the Gardner Community Center. The intent is to invest in programs to uplift individuals, support economic recovery, and build community among residents of the broader Diridon Station Area. The specifics are to be determined based on a community outreach process. City staff are now launching that outreach process in coordination with community leaders.

Outreach process

The outcome of the process will be a set of community-driven recommendations for programs, activities, and classes at the Gardner Community Center. This feedback can inform other decisions related to the center, in addition to how to spend the $1 million community benefit contribution. As part of the process, we will offer a range of opportunities for community members to share their needs, ideas, and feedback - starting with the Open House and online survey!
